Strunk's work is a solid baseline for grammar, punctuation, and composition. If your workplace tends to create its own standards for linguistics, it might be valuable to keep this readily available.

It is somewhat limited in terms of all the possible usages of punctuation, and admits as much in its first pages. While this is a valuable reference for most scenarios, it can't stand alone.

Although the book title clearly aims itself at the successful managers, it is a good antidote for all who want to do better particularly on interpersonal relationship and leadership, that previous success, no matter big or small, almost always mar ourselves with complacency, self centredness, over confidence etc etc. Well organised with wit and good substance, it did help improve my communication skills, till the time I forgot them all, and then pick it out for a re-read. In short, recommended.

I am a second year MBA candidate at Columbia Business School and in the thick of interview prep. I have a stack of case prep materials and had no idea to begin. When I asked my friends who have successfuly gone through the process, i.e. they're all heading back to top consulting firms, they said I should stick to Case in Point.

They were right. Case in Point is by far the best case book out there. The book's lighthearted approach helps you dissect cases and the Ivy Case System makes breaking these problems down simple. It helps you organize your thinking to focus on the key aspects of the case- something that interviewers are definitely looking for. I still buy and read the Guinness Record book every year, because it's become like an old friend that I like to catch up with, but I have to disagree with Birch East. I like the way it has changed and brings out a fresh look each year. The changes, like holograms, 3D whatever, make it fresh every year. My nephews also are big fans of the 3D gimmick.

I do agree with the recommendation for Getting into Guinness: One Man's Longest, Fastest, Highest Journey Inside the Most Famous Record Book, the new book by Larry Olmsted about the history and culture of the Guinness World Records book. After reading his review I snapped up a copy and it is great--very entertaining and a fun read! I have read the record book for years but never stopped to wonder ... Read More:

As an Executive Coach, I highly recommend Crucial Conversations. Many of my clients face the challenge of talking with their peers and/or direct reports on a daily basis. Most people don't handle those difficult conversations very well. This book gives great steps and info on how to go about treading through the difficult waters. I have purchased several copies of this book as gifts for clients. I am currently re-reading it in order to grasp and absorb the rich content.

I dont wanna write a book explaining this thing, but, even if youre just a part time backpacker, hiker or camper, this is a book you want to invest in. Lots of good information on lots of areas in the world. There is some stuff in here that should be common knowledge, but will teach you new things you never would have thought.

All and all, for 13 bucks, if the book helps even once while in the wilderness, you got your moneys worth. Its a must read/have for alot of people, from weekend warriors to that hardcore survivalist in your family.

No question that Easy Spanish Phrase Book is an inexpensive and relevant way to learn useful basic Spanish phrases. The problem is that most of these phrases are canned and not original.
I recommend you use this handy little booklet along with Macmillan Audio's
Behind the Wheel Spanish 8 CDs and book. Behind the Wheel - Spanish 1 (Behind the Wheel) which will teach you how to create your own sentences.
Great combo for the money!

I'd like to underscore the comments of others regarding the numerous typos and overall sloppy editing of both the book and CD. It's one thing to have some typos, but it's another thing to have information missing from graphs and completely garbled reading comprehension passages. That some of this information was intended to be there is usually made obvious by the explanations. This will prove frustrating if you're trying to get an accurate gauge of where you stand, especially with the computer based testing. (i.e. If you get wrong answers because information was missing or mistyped, you are still wrong and get different questions than you would have otherwise.)
