We went to Ireland last year for the first time and loved it so much, we are going again this year. We purchased this book as well as another guidebook. This one is fabulous -- very well thought out and organized - you can tell he really knows what he is talking about -- this is the one that we will bring with us -- he even tells you when and how to drive the Dingle Peninsula to avoid the tourist buses -- does not give you too much information. He has a very honest and down to earth approach which makes for an informative and interesting read!

Great travel book that underscores the need to travel light, both in terms of physical and mental baggage, in order to truly explore the world. The author shares lots of anectdotes that illustrate the value in straying from the beaten path, while explaining how to do so safely. I can't wait to put the lessons learned from this book into practice!

I purchased this book for my first trip overseas. The information was accurate, easy to read and has become a great resource even after my trip for labelling my pictures etc. Rick's recommendations and advice for places to eat, sleep and visit were all without fault. I read the book from cover to cover before I left home and even on a couple of unplanned walks I was able to say "hang on a minute, these's something we need to see near here, I've read about it in the book". Sure enough we were one block away from about 4 sights and we saw them all.

Rick's museum tours were made so much easier with photos of works of art worth seeing and the descriptions were perfect for my previous lack of art appreciation. I would recommended the book ... Read More:

This modern-day Herodotus is remarkably unpretentious and his writing style is straightforward and accessible (probably one reason why Kapuscinski has been so widely translated and read). The simplicity is deceptive, though. Kapuscinski's own experience of being poor, cold, and hungry in postwar Poland allows him to empathize with people in similar conditions in other parts of the world. He describes how he and his Ethiopian driver were able to communicate almost without words. Yet he also recognizes cultural barriers that prevent a European from understanding what he sees in India and China, and that manifest themselves during a concert by Louis Armstrong in Sudan. I'm probably the last person in the world to read this charming book. My interest was stirred by the Russell Crowe film A GOOD YEAR which has been running on the premium channels for the last two months.

The movie is heartwarming, witty, and full of sweet charm. Naturally I had to seek out the author of the book from which the movie was adapted. In doing so, I bought all of the other books written by Peter Mayle an ex-patriot Englishman living the life we all want to live in Provence.

Thus I began the first of his books A YEAR IN PROVENCE, his twelve-month epistle of establishing a new home in the Provençale region of France.

Mr. Bryson's half-hearted curmudgeonly approach to life makes for another enjoyable read by this author. He covers a wide array of society's peculiar habits with a mixture of surliness and confusion. The only editorials that were creative but somewhat ponderous were his columns dealing with his computer. With the exception of just those few pieces, I enjoyed his book. Mr. Bryson is a funny, insightful writer who is a great remedy for a case of the blues.

This cookbook was recommended to us by a friend...we ordered it and were not disappointed! It is the perfect cookbook for a couple who needs quick, healthy meals that are delicious. Also, we liked that it uses ingredients that you can actually find in your local grocery store. We highly recommend this cookbook!

Planning a brief trip to a country as varied and historic as Germany is demanding, but this book has been my best resource. As in all of his books, Steves states his approach to travel clearly: he doesn't cover everything, just the "best" places, the best according to him, of course. My tastes and orientation align with his (interesting, moderately priced travel, including as much local immersion as is reasonable), so I rely on his books to provide the wonderful backbones of great trips. For visiting places other than his "best" I use a more comprehensive guide book, like Lonely Planet, in addition to (rather than instead of) his.

When ever I go to WDW I have to buy at least 2-3 different "guidebooks" and stumbled on this book during my search and had not purchased in the past. I sometimes find that they put in way too much information and not enough photos, this book however has alot of colorful photos and I found that it had different information than other books that I have bought in the past and also for my current trip to WDW in December I also purchased the 2008 Birnbaum book (always have to have this one) and I currently have the 2007 unofficial guidebook which will do for this year as well and it is huge! I absolutely love The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008!!
