This book was not my first read by Bill Bryson and I will move on to other authors after this read. As I was reading this book I wondered why I had read as much of this author as I have.
Bryson tends to look down his nose at people and things that do not meet his obviously cultured standards. His anger whether displayed or passive aggressive has gotten old.
An example of my disappointment in this book is the author's report of New York City. Bryson couldn't find anything interesting within the 5 boroughs of the city.
His politically correct self contentment is no longer of interest to me.

I would highly recommend any of the Rick Steve's European guide books. We used this one in Italy and found it very helpful. And it was amazing to see so many others using it, too! Everywhere we went, walking, flying or on the train, there was at least one other person reading their Rick Steve's book!

This book is a great gift idea for someone who is a repeat visitor to Walt Disney World. It is not a general list of hidden mickeys, like hiddenmickeys.org, but is instead a game that you can play with others in your group.

Included are game rules for "Scavenger Hunt" and "non-Scavenger Hunt". Buy multiple books, and you can compare your Scavenger Hunt scores at the end of the day. You can also play non-Scavenger Hunt with your kids (or by yourself) while waiting in line. The book is easy to store in your pocket.

If you want to play Scavenger Hunt and don't have enough books, you can always purchase additional books (at full price, of course) in the parks.

I have been using Frommers for many years. So naturally I chose this book to prepare for our first trip to Australia. It is the only guide book that you will need, though you might want to pick up a free AAA guide after you arrive if you need hotel info as Frommers can't cover every property.

This book will provide basic info on all the major sites. In addition, you will find a great deal of info on smaller towns that you may visit if you decide to do any driving. It was invaluable for providing info on the fly.

If you buy one guidebook, this one should be it.

Now that I'm old (well, 33), I felt it was time to graduate from the rough guide/lonely planet Paris guidebooks that I normally use and pick up one that covers more high-end suggestions than I could afford when I started visiting Paris 15 years ago. Flipped a coin between Frommers and Fodors, and got this one.

If this is your first trip to Paris and you want to make sure you know what the must-sees are, this is a great book to have. There are plenty of lists of "Best Restaurants", "Top Museums", 1-3 day walking itineraries, etc. There's a nice mix of hotel and restaurant recommendations for all budgets.

However, if you're a more adventurous soul, this isn't the book for you--it's geared towards the standard tourist experience. ... Read More:

Lots of great recipes. I've already made "Tony Roma's Ribs" twice. The recipe includes how to make the BBQ sauce, as well as the preparation methods. They were just as tender and tasted just as good the ribs that we have eaten at Tony Roma's restaurants.

Can't wait to try a few other recipes!

some tips are interesting, but some I've heard before. The book had a difficult time keeping my interest since the entries are so short and unrelated in terms of organization.

I highly recommend this book. This author provides great history along with useful information in enjoying the park. There is a logical division of areas within the park and she references you to the next map(location) at the end of each discussion. It is an easy to use reference. She gives information about the surrounding towns and immediate areas outside of each park entrance which decreases the need for additional guide books. I highly recommend this book.

This directory is HUGE, and filled with adds but I can't imagine setting off on a long trip without it. Calling ahead, or reserving a spot online is such a good idea when you are driving or pulling a large trailer. It really pays to have an idea of what you are getting into before you get there. If you are arriving later in the day to an area you are unfamiliar with this directory is a necessity.
