. Rick Steves' Best of Eastern Europe 2004 (Rick Steves' Best of Eastern Europe)
City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves
by: Rick Steves, Cameron Hewitt
2004-02
I'm a 'tweener when it comes to travel: Too old for the hostel racket, but not rich enough to hit every 5-star. So when I travel, I generally take two guidebooks -- Fodor's, the old reliable when it comes to hotel and restaurant recs, and Rick Steves, for practical stuff like the best way to getting from airport to hotel and discount passes and such. I like Rick Steves' attitude toward travel, which is to be as local as possible. I also like that he has definite opinions and that he prioritizes his listings. Even when you don't agree (and I don't a lot of the time) it still helps the planning when you have only a limited amount of time. Well, I bought this guide because I was hitting 3 cities in it -- Berlin, Prague, and ... Read More:

. Rick Steves' Europe Through the Back Door 1998 (16th ed)
City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves
by: Rick Steves
1998-01
My wife and I used numerous books for our trip to Italy and France last year. (Our first ever to Europe). We bought Let's Go, Eyewitness, and the Rick Steve's Italy and France books. They were all very helpful, but Rick's books proved to be the best for down and dirty information to make the trip easier and more memorable. Not only are his practical tips worth their salt, but if you agree with his travel philosophy you will have much more success by following his suggestions. The other books are good in certain areas: Let's Go: additional places to stay in case your first choice(s) are full, Eyewitness: Great for pictures and facts so you know where to go when you are there. Everywhere we went travelers had these with them. We were ... Read More:

. Rick Steves' Great Britain 2006 (Rick Steves)
City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves
by: Rick Steves
January 11, 2006
This "tourism porn" is more like watching a cooking show than reading a cookbook, meaning it was great inspiring fun to sit back and see the sites as our always affable host traveled across Britain, but deep down this DVD wasn't a lot of help when it came to planning my trip. Oh, I recommend it, sure, it's great to watch, I love Rick Steves, but as far as assisting the planning of a vacation... Hence my cooking show/cookbook comparison up there. His actual guidebooks, however, are invaluable!
