We recently used this book as a guide throughout the Czech Republic and found everything up-to-date and bang-on; the insider information was invaluable. We ate at his recommendations in Cesky Krumlov as well as Prague and had great meals. .Rick Steves' Italy Map: Including Rome, Florence, Venice and Siena City (Rick Steves) City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves by: Rick Steves December 18, 2006 I put "MAP REVIEW" in my title, as it seems that most of the reviews here are for the book? How does that make sense? This map was good for us as it covered our itinerary - Venice, Florence, Siena, and Rome. The landmarks were helpful, as well as the designations for pedestrian areas and shopping areas. The map is fairly heavy paper, so it will last even if it's not laminated. My main complaint is the map didn't have enough street level information. So if you're navigating by yourself, you may need another map if you're looking for a particular street location. .Rick Steves' Britain, Ireland and London City Map (Rick Steves) City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves by: Rick Steves December 18, 2006 When visiting a foreign country, especially the first time, a person is generally unfamiliar with locations. This map helps stay mentally organized with sightseeing locations. Yesterday we returned from a two week Ireland/London trip. When reaching London the map was a definite lifesaver. In utilizing the Tube for most of our travel, the map not only has an Underground Tube map, but the Central London map includes the Underground locations to aid in knowing which station to select for the sightseeing locations. We were saved from many wasted hours. You will save so much time and money by using them. However, as loaded with good information as this one is, I found it rather useless once in the museums because I couldn't peel my eyes off the art to look at a book!! The thought of pouring through a book spoiled the mood, so I never used it while in the museums. This was our first trip abroad so it was imperative for us to choose a good guide book. Rick Steves' guide to Rome proved to be an invaluable tool for our trip, especially in the planning phase. Strengths: - Great for pre-trip planning such as locating a hotel, getting around the city, deciding which sites to visit, etc. We stayed at Gulliver's Place and L-O-V-E-D it. - Especially helpful is his section on planning your sight-seeing based on the number of days you will be there. His ratings of most important to least important things to see were, for the most part, spot-on.
