. Rick Steves' Portugal 2007 (Rick Steves)
City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves

We bought this (1/08) immediately, based on our favorable experience with the Paris and England books (used 6 months ago); this one is a slim volume and has really rudimentary information, omitting many of the small towns and descriptions which, in other works, enabled us to build an itinerary. It's extremely good for planning for/navigating Lisbon, and the sections on Coimbra and Porto are fairly thorough. (We didn't read the Algarve section, so can't comment on it other than it seems to occupy a good bit of the book.) But the coastal towns, north and eastern areas suffer some serious neglect. If I were only going to Lisbon, Sintra and that area, I would find the book worthwhile. If we were going to the Algarve, I'd pick it up and check through it ... Read More:

. Rick Steves' Scandinavia 2007 (Rick Steves)

As with all of Rick Steve's books, it makes me wish we could do the whole 3 week tour described... but, with only ONE day in Copenhagen and a partial day in Oslo, it was still very useful. The main thing we learned was to buy the OSLO PASS and the COPENHAGEN PASS (available at the tourist booths) because it included all public transportation for 24 hours and also most admissions to things like the Viking Museum, City Hall, Nobel Peace Prize museum, the Norwegian folk museum/park etc. (Oslo) and even more in Copenhagen - the palaces, Tivoli Gardens, museums, and the buses. Loved the comment about the canal cruises in Copenhagen. If I had not read that, we would never have thought to do it. The highlight of our trip!

. Rick Steves' Rome 2007 (Rick Steves)

My husband and I honeymooned in Italy in June, 2007. This was our first trip abroad so it was imperative for us to choose a good guide book. Rick Steves' guide to Rome proved to be an invaluable tool for our trip, especially in the planning phase.
Strengths:
- Great for pre-trip planning such as locating a hotel, getting around the city, deciding which sites to visit, etc. We stayed at Gulliver's Place and L-O-V-E-D it.
- Especially helpful is his section on planning your sight-seeing based on the number of days you will be there. His ratings of most important to least important things to see were, for the most part, spot-on. We relied upon his recommendations for our week-long trip heavily.
- His walking tours were ... Read More:
