Eyewitness Travel Germany; 2. Frommer's Germany's Best-Loved Driving Tours; 3. Rick Steves' Germany and Austria 2006. Two months into our stay here we now almost exclusively use the Rick Steves' book..... It is fantastic! His opinionated travel advice always seems to be right on. .Rick Steves' Prague and the Czech Republic 2006 (Rick Steves) City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves by: Rick Steves, Honza Vihan November 07, 2005 Rick Steves provided nice highlights of Prague and other cities in the Czech Republic. We referred to this book every day of our trip. Wish we had purchased it before we made our flight and hotel arrangements. After reading his book, there are a couple of other towns we would have liked to have visited based on his descriptions. There are informative bits of history spread throughout the book. Most of the restaurant suggestions were excellent. He points out "not-to-miss" sights well and gives you a strategy for avoiding crowds and lines. He tells you about other sites that are not on the beaten path (but still interesting). Would highly suggest bringing this trip on your travels to Prague and the Czech Republic. It is a helpful ... It has awesome insider tips on where to stay, eat, climate, costs...all updated annually...it even includes phone numbers of places to stay and whether or not they speak English...provides emails and websites and so much more! .Rick Steves' 2005 Best Of Europe (Rick Steves' Best of Europe) City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves by: Rick Steves 2004-08 I spent two wks in Europe and would have been helpless/lost without this book. I had previously traveled throughout Europe with a tour company, but with the assistance of Rick Steve's guidance and personal recommendations, I enjoyed this trip the most. He gives a unique balance of history, information and individual opinion for a range of interests/financial cost. I went to many of his recommended restaurants/hotels and found his ratings very accurate. The resturant he rec's in Salzburg, Austria for duck makes the best duck I've ever had. .Rick Steves' Great Britain 2007 (Rick Steves) City Travel Guides > Books > Rick Steves by: Rick Steves December 20, 2006 I moved to London two years ago, and I had a lot of time on my hands the first year to do sight seeing. I bought Rick Steves' book because I wanted to see what he recommended. Two years later, I've seen just about everything he mentions in passing and then some, and I can say I think he is spot on with his approach. This is a guidebook for people of moderate/limited means and limited time who want to see the major sites. In a city like London, you'll have to pick and choose which things you want to see, and he groups the sites together into easy self-guided walks that maximize what you can see in a day. We always supplement with another guidebook (DK, National Geographic), as sometimes he is just too damn smug and opinionated. For example, on this trip, he had two good reviews and suggestions on places to stay in small towns outside Prague (Cesky Krumlov & Trebon) and both were exactly as advertised. Some of his low reviews on restaurants do not seem to be accurate, as we have eaten at both restaurants recommended and ones to be avoided on his list, and generally think we can do a better job in finding our own food. Positive is some of the insight he gives in the description of items in museums, the negative is the lack of good photos and maps(he admits this and says to buy a good map when you ... Rick Steves' book Paris 2002 published by Avalon Travel Publishing can be described as having a tour guide at your personal disposal. The author presents a very brief introduction dealing with the general topics of when to go, trip costs, exchange rates, etc. This is in sharp contrast to many of the guides that devote too many pages to these details. You sometimes get the feeling that some of these authors are trying to fill up the pages. Immediately after the introductory chapter Reeves gives us the global picture in his "Orientation" chapter.
