I read for style more than plot or characterization. I was in the grocery store a few weeks ago thumbing through books. I picked up this book. I read the first line: "October was a vile month." That is the first line of Chapter 1. Liz, you had me at line 1. The hook is the single-most important aspect of whether or not a reader will pick up a book and open it. .The Burnt House City Travel Guides > Books > Romance by: Faye Kellerman July 29, 2008 This was an OK book. I did get angry when Kellerman described Cathy, a secondary character who was the niece of the parents of a murder victim, as 5'4 and 'tipping the scales' at 125 lbs. Is that a heavy weight? I wouldn't think so, and neither do tables for desirable weights created by Met Life, the US Army and the US National Center for Health Statistics. This type of attitude pops up in Kellerman's books from time to time. She constantly describes Marge Dunn in terms that make her sound like Shamu the Whale when you would expect that a police detective would have enough muscle mass to handle tough situations. >>See More Reviews & Details on The Burnt House |

.Touch of Darkness (Darkness Chosen, Book 2) City Travel Guides > Books > Romance by: Christina Dodd August 07, 2007 Once again Dodd out did herself. I liked this book just as much as the first one. The sexual tension between Rarik and Tasya was palpable. In the second novel Rarik has more control over his ability to shift into hawk form that Jasha did into wolf. Rarik isn't as intense as his elder brother but there is a scene on a train that had my heart racing to the point that once again I had to put the book aside and catch my breath. Like the first book it took me a whole day to read it. I simply couldn't put it down and couldn't help be annoyed when I was interrupted by every day life. A WONDERFUL series thus far. There were two short stories in the book and not the same amount of emotional development as there is in her breed novels or my personal fav. of hers "forbidden pleasure". .Into the Fire (Troubleshooters, Book 13) City Travel Guides > Books > Romance by: Suzanne Brockmann July 22, 2008 I usually love Susanne Brockmann's books but this book was a disappointment. I main characters Hannah and Murphy love story was kind of boring. I don't think the author gave the characters the time and depth that they deserved. I love all the SEALS and the troubleshooters crew but at time i had to keep reminding myself who was who, there were too many characters running around at once and they all had their own thing going on. I am glad that Sophia is finally seeing the light and i cant wait to read her story. I would love to see Tracy the receptionist get her own story as well, it seemed to be hinted at in the book.
