At first I thought this book has too much detail and I will never use it, but now I find that is the first book I go to. I lived in Iraklion 40 years ago and I am planning my first return next April. Crete has changed a great deal, and this book is helping me to find the 'old Crete' that I remember. Rough Guide may not be helpful if you have 2 or 3 days in Crete, but I am planning an exended stay and this book has the information I want to plan my return visit.

I'll be leaving for the south of France in a week, so I've poured through this book doing all of my research and homework before leaving.
I think it gave a fairly comprehensive view of the region. I liked the way it was arranged into different areas and just enough info about various villages.

Just got back from Amsterdam yesterday. This guide book was ok but I also took Frommers which I found to be much more useful.

I love this guide, very useful, concise, and easy to find information. It also gives names of books we can read before having the great adventure to visit the west of USA. I think I got to know the WEst before being there thanks to this guide.

I used this book extensively both in preparing for a week spent in the Lake District. It proved to be very detailed and accurate, as well as very up-to-date as regards prices / website addresses, etc. I have been to the area several times in the past, and this guide really brought back all the memories and had me chomping at the bit to return. While there, I used it constantly, and not once did it provide any inaccurate information. A good guide book is essential for any trip - and this is one of the best I have ever used.

If you're going to Trinidad and Tobago, you simply MUST buy this book. It was a huge help while I was there, and I wouldn't have had nearly as much fun without it. Complete where where to stay, what to do, how to get there, where to catch the Maxis, taxis, etc...it is an incredibly helpful book. If you're going to T&T and not touring the country, you probably won't need a book. But if you want to see what T&T really has to offer, you've gotta pick this book up. I spent 9 days in the country with this book always at my side.

This guide was so bad I ended up ditching it half way through the trip, since it was basically as useful as carrying a brick around.

I had been to Spain before, previously using Rick Steve's guide, and I have usually rely on Lonely Planet - which I used in India - so I thought, since I had been to Andalusia before I would try something different. What a mistake!

a. Inaccurate information - for two nights I had no hotel reservation (because I was coming from Morocco and wanted that portion of the trip to be open ended - I tried using the guide in two cities I was unfamiliar with - Ronda and Alegris. I used this guide on my first trip to Washington D.C. It was comprehensive and chock full of good, sound advice about the city and its attractions. The restaurant part was exceptional - everywhere I ate was delicious, healthy, unique and well-priced. I am still dreaming about the falafel place in Adams Morgan which was suggested in the book and thoroughly enjoyed, and was not a place I would have pursued on my own.

There are little bits of humor which spring up in unexpected places in the book and they provide a good dose of lightness to the otherwise fairly dense text.

Of course you can always get a D.C. guidebook from DK or Lonely Planet and follow around the rest of the tourists/lemmings while you are on vacation, or you can pick ... Read More:

It appears to be an excellent map, but experience has taught us that actually using it is the definitive proof....how much detail it contains. We have yet to use it. However the material is sturdy and waterproof.
