First off, the maps are not very helpful. They aren't detailed enough, as far as the little side streets are concerned. Also, the maps are buried in different sections, so if you want to get from Neighborhood A to Neighborhood B you gotta keep on flippin'. The City Center map that's located in the index is adequate for navigating to major points of interests, but only that.

Secondly, while descriptions of restuarants, coffeeshops, htels and stores are accurate, a lot of REALLLLLLLLY cool places that I found on my own there are just not listed.

So, definitely carry it with you but keep in mind that on your own, you will find a lot of people/places and things that haven't been spotted by this guide.

This book has very good written content (e.g., clearly written, up-to-date, lively, contains web addresses for further reference), but the neighborhood maps that appear throughout the book are mostly monochrome, and are not very easy to negotiate with the eye. This is a big problem if you're trying to use this book partly to learn the topography of Tokyo. I use this book in conjunction with the well-crafted "Streetwise Tokyo" laminated color map. This would work, but until Rough Guide adds better-designed (and colored) maps, it might be more efficient and cost-effective to look at some of the competing books.

If you're the kind of traveller who likes to make your own decisions, find your own way, and discover a country for yourself, you need a good map, and for Thailand, this is it! Printed on a durable and water resistant paper, this rough guide is very easy to fold and unfold. If you've been around maps more than a second, then you know that folding alone can be a huge frustration. My wife and I spent a month backpacking around the south of Thailand, staying in cheap guesthouses and enjoying the country, from sea kayaking to scuba diving to drinking buckets of margaritas on the beach and watching the fire shows. I wouldn't buy it again. Okay to own if you know very little about New Zealand and need some ideas on what to do if you go there. However, if you have done a fair amount of research on a trip there, this book is pretty uneventful.

This was written about 4 or 5 years ago. Most phone numbers are out of date. I had a very bad experience when trying to use this guide book and hope you can find something better.

This book is really useful and gives you, along with the travel information, some history for each main city. According to my Bulgarian friend, the information in this book is really accurate, except for the bus line numbers...! The book even gives you the Cyrillic names of the city.

If you plan to visit a lot of Bulgaria, it's a must!
