Dedicated Rough Guides fans already know that you don't buy these books for their glossy photography. You buy them for density of information. Three things that stand out about this one are: 1) In additional to a 100-page treatment of the capital, the catalog offers unusually dense coverage of the lovely attractions beyond Budapest. .The Rough Guide to West Africa 4 (Rough Guide Travel Guides) City Travel Guides > Books > Rough Guide by: ROUGH GUIDES November 27, 2003 As most of the reviews point out, the battle here is between Lonely Planet and Rough Guide. I bought them both, as I usually do before a big trip, and after studying them both will take the RG. They are both good in terms of information on hotels and restaurants, I just found the layout of RG a bit better. Cultural and travel basics are better organized up front, the maps are larger and much clearer, and the references to the maps in the text easier to decipher. But for me the big plus is that the RG contains much better information about moving between countries, and information about specific transport options from area to area - boat, bus, train - is much more detailed. .The Rough Guide to The Baltic States - 2nd Edition City Travel Guides > Books > Rough Guide by: Jonathan Bousfield December 10, 2007 I had used the first edition to help plan our 3 plus week trip to the Baltic states during May, 2008. But since it was published several years ago, I decided to buy the the 2nd edition (early 2008) which came out a few weeks prior to our leaving for our trip. How frustrating and what a waste of money. Much of the information had not been updated, many places had been closed for over 2 years. There are mention of new things coming in 2006!!! So what happened??? - needed serious editing by folks that "had boots on the ground" - not just using the internet for some updates. Thankfully, I had the Bradt guide and, best of all, were the up to date "In Your Pocket" guides which you can download free or buy light small magazine style when you arrive (check out online ...
