In June, 2006 my wife and I traveled extensively through all parts of Cyprus by rental car and carried 4 recently published guidebooks. Even with Lonely Planet and DK carrying 2006 copyrights, neither could hold a candle to Rough Guide (Sept, 2005). Marc Dubin's work is not simply that of a traveler writing a guidebook, but like an expert presenting an insightful, informative, and balanced work. It added immensely to our enjoyment and understanding of Cyprus. The highlights section for each chapter provided an excellent overview of each region, and for the first time I found the maps to be even better than the ones in Lonely Planet. great guidebook. Describes in detail the good, the bad and the ugly of Nepal. The language section was extremely useful. A few hours spent learning some useful greetings and phrases will pay off tenfold upon arrival in Nepal. Being able to bargain or ask for directions in the native language is a lot of fun and much appreciated, especially since most travellers do not take the time to learn anything more than "Namaste."

I'm a editor in Sweden and purchased this guide (together with Lonely Planet Tunisia) after my visit to Tunisia. Both are most useful in my work now and I highly recommended them. For those who are planning to visit Tunisia - prepare by reading the Rough Guide, and use the LP Tunisia as a guidebook during your visit.

This book is my favorite bahama guide for several reasons. First, it has a tremendous amount of information. Best ways to get to different islands, what you can do while you are there, etc. Second, it tells you where to stay and eat for less. Third, it has more detailed information on the lesser known islands in the bahamas.

I like to do a lot of research on where I'm travelling too and this book did not disappoint. Some of the other guides use similar information, but this one seems to be unique.

I feel like this book was a little bit a waste of money. It was pretty compact, and had a overview of almost every major area (which is what I was looking for) including a few hotels and restaraunts. However, in one instance it was MAJORLY wrong. We went to monumnet valley in arizona/utah. It highly recommended an navajo led back-country jeep tour (sounds pretty cool) for just $25 a person. We get there and there are NO back country tours. It takes you on a dirt road which you can drive yourself, and it was not a jeep. It was a bus with the windows knocked out of it. AND, to top it off, it was $60, not $25! After that I didn't really use it because I didn't feel like I could trust the book.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews of this book.

While staying in a great hostel (that did happen to be recommended in this book)two of my roommates traveling together begged me to let them keep my Rough Guide To Peru 6. They were carrying Lonely Planet.

Also, while traveling with friends whom I had met carrying different Peru guides (LP included) I always was curious to read how various guides wrote-up a Peru site that I had visited already. With limited exceptions, I felt the Rough Guide to be superior. (I never ran across anyone with a Moon guide and I used them in Costa Rica and was very impressed).
