I like this and and the Frommer's guide best for Norway. They both have good maps and good information on a lot of the places you would like to visit and good info on the best tours. You do have to be careful that either a tour hasn't been cancelled or the time has changed since the book was written. We found that in Bergen. I thought both the Rough Guide Norway and Frommer's had much more specific info on tours and things to do than the Fodor's and Lonely Planet books do. And the Rough Guide has interesting insights, eg. how you might want take the Lysefjord cruise and bus tour if you have the time because you see it from within the fjord and above it. Before I jump into some comments about this book, the best of all Rough Guides I've bought to date, let's get a few facts down about Scandinavia:

1) This part of the world is absolutely picture perfect. You'll not visit cities more architecturally stunning, clean, geographically blessed and culturally dynamic than these... anywhere. You'll not visit geography and nature more awesome and pristine than here... anywhere.

2) There's a price to pay for all of this loveliness: Scandinavia is the most expensive tourist destination in the world. The capital cities are hilariously expensive. What you pay in Stockholm and Oslo will be twice what you pay in Paris, four times what you pay in Prague, and ten time what you pay in ... Read More:

We just returned from Tuscany & Umbria and used a friend's Rough Guide to Tuscany & Umbria 5. It was indispensable! User-friendly and entertaining - plus great recommendations for restaurants, pizza, gelato, etc.

They are many guides to choose from while traveling. I bought this one because it's suppose to have information in it like a friend would give you. I am using it as my primary guide beacuse the others aren't as good. I loved the Rough Guide format and would select this guide first when travleing again!

The book starts out with places that you shouldn't miss, which I thought was a great idea, all in color and tells you how to find more info on each place. I loved the section on basic facts that told me info about electrical outlets, how to get to the city from the airports, and the normal things, like exchange rates and safety.

an exceptionally practical guide to travel in bali and lombok. on a recent month holiday to bali, i used the book from cover to cover. the information is accurate and the maps came in very useful whilst negotiating the other road users in my rented jeep. i will certainly buy a roughguides for my next trip and have peace of mind that what is written is correct.

Rough Guide's "First-Time" series give a basic overview of a given part of the world meant to orientate people who have a vague plan of going there and a little uncertainty about independent travel. Indeed, each installment contains much the same information about basics like how to pack, how to get air tickets, and what to wear. A large portion of the book is made up of two-page summaries about each African country, excepting those currently dangerous to travel in (CAR, Buruni, Republic of Congo, Somalia).
