Neil Shubin, codiscoverer of the Tiktaalit, shows in this book that to become a human you must first become a fish. Its a wonderful argument against the notion of `intelligent design'. Or would you call a car manufacturer intelligent who makes a Mercedes by first building a wooden coach? Nevertheless there is an unwholesome streak of creationism and anti-darwinism in Shubins otherwise lucid descriptions, a streak which seems to belong to US-American culture like Samba belongs to Brazil. I had a really bad experience dealing with this seller. I ordered my book on May 30, and by the time the estimated delivery date of June 23 had passed, I had tried to contact this seller three times without a response. Before I could file a claim with Amazon, I received an apologetic email from the seller explaining that he was unaware of my purchase and would ship the book immediately the next day. Alhough a refund was offered I foolishly accepted the order because I urgently needed the book. An additional week went by without a shipping confirmation and when I tried to get in touch with the seller again, I did not receive a response. After a lifetime of interest in learning about exercise, I finally got this: the proper textbook on the subject. Recommend this book for everyone interested in learning what science has found about exercise.

This book is the opposite of all those endless magazine and internet exercise tips. The authors have themselves tested and compiled the best experimentally tested findings on the causes and mechanics of exercise and the human body. Why does muscle get stronger? Can you get faster? How? Why?

I should have paid attention to the other reviewer. There are very few rationales in this book. If you are a student and need to provide a rationale for every diagnosis, then this book is NOT for you. I don't understand why the word "rationale" is even in the title. I think it's some kind of ploy to get someone to buy the book. The book is good for Nanda Diagnosis listings. It's nice and compact. But if you need individual rationales, you're better off getting a care plan book. The author even tells the reader to do that in the foreword. Too late for me, I bought the book already. I'm going to return it today.

The manual is well written, with an extreme emphasis on "doing things" rather than on "reading things". A little different, but I like the hands-on approach. It is definitely possible to read-ahead without actually doing the examples as, while they do build on each other, a new starting place (example file) is included for each logical breakpoint.

Having the full use of the software during this period is definitely an added bonus.

"Disrupting Class" is a very interesting read for people interested in improving education here in the U.S. Dr. Christensen argues that the main problem with traditional schools is that they cannot provide individualized instruction that best meets each student's needs. As a home educator, I couldn't agree with him more. He sees computer-based learning as a "disruptive innovation" that will solve the problem of how to provide this type of "student-centric" learning to the masses (since not everyone can homeschool or hire a tutor for their offspring).
