.The Rough Guide to Peru (Rough Guides) City Travel Guides > Books > South America by: Dilwyn Jenkins 1985-10 I really enjoyed the tone of this book, it was full of excellent background information (history, customs, etc.). What I found lacking (a problem I have not encountered with other rough guides) was a lack of details. Many bus companies were left out, and some of the maps were difficult to follow. I do not know spanish and felt very dependent on a guide book. .Exploring the Amazon City Travel Guides > Books > South America by: Helen Schreider, Frank Schreider 1970 Although "Exploring the Amazon" was a very good book, it just wasn't what I was looking for... I was looking for a book that contained info and photographs of the plants, animals, insects, and people of the Amazon rainforest. This book contains lots of interesting facts, info, and color photographs on the plant life and animals of the rainforest, but not nearly enough on insects and people. It barely spoke of insects at all, and all of the people that were in this book were people that lived in villages and cities outside of the rainforest. I did enjoy this book, and I'm definately not complaining about the price, (I only paid 10 cents plus shipping and handling for it) but it just wasn't quite what I was looking for... .Whitewater Trips for Kayakers, Canoeists, and Rafters in British Columbia City Travel Guides > Books > South America by: Betty Pratt-Johnson 1986-02 While this book is now somewhat dated (published in 1986) and out of print, it still remains the classic guide to whitewater paddling opportunities in Southwestern British Columbia. This book does not describe the dozens of "new-school" runs that have been discovered over the last decade and some of the drops mentioned as unrunnable are now routinely paddled. For that reason, this book is no longer considered comprehensive and you won't find any mention of well-known runs such as the Stein, Ashlu Creek, Homathko, or the dozens of other world-class creek runs in the Whistler area and Fraser Valley. This book is however a comprehensive guide to the classic runs that were originally pioneered in long fiberglass boats. It's long past time for a new guidebook ... .Backpacking Chile & Argentina City Travel Guides > Books > South America by: Tim Burford October 01, 1998 Having spent over 18 months hiking throughout the Chilean park system I looked forward to reading Tim Burford's guide to backpacking and hiking in Chile and Argentina, I was disappointed. I can only comment on parts of the guide that deal with areas of Chile I am familiar with. The far north of Chile is dealt with in 5 1/2 pages and after getting through the usual list of animals to be seen the 5 parks, 7 reserves and 2 national monuments are briefly described as attractive and amazing but very little is said about actual hiking and trekking access or trails. I can assure you there are dozens of well known trails throughout the parks, reserves and national monuments mentioned in the far north section.
