I instantly became intrigued the minute I opened up this book. It is a wonderful chronicle of one man's adventures as he circumnavigates the shores of the captivating Mediterranean Sea. I could really imagine myself being in his coat pocket as he made his way around and about the many countries that form the shores of this mysterious sea.

The author is a very genuine human being and comes across very sincere in his recounting of his unconventional route about. As a fancier of history, culture, foreign politics, and geography this book had me quite compelled through and throughout. I didn't want it to end!

I've owned half a dozen knot books, and this is the best of them. The problem with so many knot books is they show you step three as step one, and make you feel like an idiot because you can't even start. This one doesn't do that. It has by far the easiest instructions for a monkey's fist of any book I've seen.
I don't get the critical reviews. The author is a certified knot superstar and certainly knows his junk. He's seen the other books, and wrote this one. I think most of the criticisms fall into the "over-analyzing" category, or people who just aren't comfortable with two-thumbs-upping anything. Listen--this is a fantastic book. You want to learn knots? It'll teach you.

I love this guide, so much in fact that when i lost it a year ago I bought another copy. The advice is useful, though you'll need a more detailled map to accompany it, and it hits the bright spots of each little town without leaving out much. Great if you are new to the Bay Area and want to explore without feeling like a tourist.

I used this in Kenya, and got to know a lot of the animals there pretty well. If you are going to Africa, I highly suggest getting this, but also supplementing your research with more local resources. The book is now on the coffee table, and is pretty cool to flip through.

One of my weaknesses as a reader is for travelogues. I read many of them, relishing the accounts of the obscure as well as the renowned. But truly, it's not my weakness so much as the genre's strength. Travel somehow turns unexceptional literary talents into Hemingways and Nabokovs; the experience of the exotic turns us all into wide-eyed children again, while simultaneously equipping us with powers of description and evocation that we never otherwise master.
