I am a sports fan and someone who cares about the politics of social change. This book brought these worlds together in a way that has me rethinking how I understand both the history of sports and the history of the United States. Each story told might be worth its own book but I will take with me the stories of Moses Fleetwood Walker, the African American baseball player in the 19th century who saw his career die with the end of reconstruction, and the way the famed US women's soccer team threatened to strike in 1996 - on the advice of Billie Jean King - for equal pay. This is a must read - an antidote to the narrow politics of election season.

I strongly suggest purchasing this book. It is full of information to help you become a better rider. As a Road Captain in The Christian Motorcyclist Association it helps me keep our Chapter members informed on safe riding practices. The writer has excellent knowledge of motorcycling and uses many real life situations to illustrate his point. He is very witty in his writing which makes the book fun to read. I would also reccomend the first book Proficient Motorcycling

I've had this book lying around for a while (re-gifted to me by a friend) and honestly never expected to read it. It being summer, though, I thought a book about racing sled dogs in Alaska would be an interesting idea. I honestly don't really like dogs and have never really read anything by Gary Paulsen, so my expectations were not high, to say the least. I loved this book, however, and found myself laughing out loud during several parts -- pretty much whenever he gets dragged behind the sled as the dogs go racing away out of control (which seems to happen pretty frequently). The book is not all humor, however, and has some rather unhappy parts as well.

My only criticism would be that the book is much too short. I would have enjoyed reading ... Read More:

As someone who was inspired by Terry Laughlin's first book, I highly recommend this one! I am a former competitive swimmer who now swims for fitness. I was becoming bored with conventional interval-type training, and was looking for new ways to change up my routine with flippers, hand paddles, etc. Terry describes technique training in a refreshing direct way that anyone who wishes to improve their swimming form can understand. I recommend this book to everyone who says to me,"You make swimming look so easy and effortless the way you glide through the water. I wish I could do that!" Finally, someone has articulated what I've intuitively known and was not able to teach or explain.

This book makes Mexican totally accessible. I'm so excited to cook through this book because I love Mexican food, but eating out gets expensive and always has too much cheese and lard. Rick's book makes it a lot healthier with regional flavors and cooking techniques.
