. Time Out Washington, D.C. (Time Out Washington, Dc)
City Travel Guides > Books > Time Out Travel
from: Time Out Publishing
2004-11
The current Timeout 2004 guide for Washington, DC has really good coverage of DC art galleries; in fact it is the only DC guide that offers any decent "guiding" to Washington area galleries.
It is written by Jessica Dawson, who also pens the "Galleries" column for the Washington Post.
She has a good introduction and even lists her favorites for 2004 under "Names of the Game."
Jessica nails it when she recognizes in her intro that a new "optimism" is kindling a really good art scene in the Washington, DC region.
Unfortunately, throughout the pages dedicated to the galleries, and as it is to be expected, there are quite a few comparisons to New York this, New York that all over the place. ... Read More:

. Time Out Dublin
City Travel Guides > Books > Time Out Travel

2004-10
This is a great all-round guide to the beautiful city of Dublin. I found this book to be thorough, unbiased and honest (it didn't read like a tourism leaflet). Never had any problems with it, personally. Also loved the chapters on history, Dublin today and so on. ***** out of *****.

. Time Out London (Time Out London Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Time Out Travel
from: Time Out Publishing
2006-02
This review is going to be a very short one.
The Time Out guides are almost invariably a great source of valuable information. The London guide is one of the oldest, if not the oldest of the Time Out series, and the amount of expertise and, more importantly, to my mind, off-beat suggestions, e.g., where to find a restaurant specializing in Mongolian Hot Pot, makes it invaluable.
There is only a minor problem with the guide; it is revised each year, so that Time Out London from 2005, when it was perfectly good, may have a bit too much outdated information

. Time Out San Francisco (Time Out Guides)
City Travel Guides > Books > Time Out Travel

First off, I should say that for a visitor to San Francisco, this guide is still your best bet for all around coverage of shopping, bars, and sights. If you are going to get one guide, get this one (just make sure the restaurants still exist before you drop by!). I really like Time Out guides in general, and have found them indispensable for such places as diverse as Budapest, Las Vegas, and New York. This guide, however, lacks the fun attitude and vast amount of information that these others have. I am clearly biased, being a Bay Area native, but the writers just got on my nerves: the bar section, for example, constantly categorizes places as catering to "pretentious hipsters" or "scenester yuppies", while other places are left ... . Time Out London 2006 Eating & Drinking (Time Out Guides)
City Travel Guides > Books > Time Out Travel
from: Time Out Publishing
November 09, 2005
This is a fat book: 415 pages with small type. It's probably too heavy to throw into a daypack as I travel around London on my upcoming trip, so I've ordered its smaller sibling, the Time Out London Cheap Eats, for that role.
However, if I were spending more than a few days in the city, I would definitely bring along this book. It is chock full of restaurant reviews, with very real-world considerations (such as whether a baby carriage can fit between the aisles), and not-always-positive write-ups that nonetheless give you a strong sense of what the place is like. One, described as "not for the faint of heart," explains that diners are hurried to vacate tables and the service is haphazard, and that "it's hard not to make new friends ... Read More:

. Time Out Stockholm (Time Out Guides)
City Travel Guides > Books > Time Out Travel
by: Time Out
February 09, 2005
I used this book for a trip to Stockholm & the archipelago. I read it before my trip, and it prepared me well to find my way around, and narrow down what I wanted to see. Once there, the descriptions of historical facts and stories behind the sights were very good.
Prices- as with so many guidebooks, prices were slightly outdated. I was using a December 2007 edition for a trip in August 2008, so I suppose that's to be expected. Most prices were about 20 SEK (about $3) higher, including the Vasa Museum and the Absolute Icebar.
Maps- The maps were good, but not great. I was able to find my way around very well, although some smaller streets have been omitted from the maps. Restaurants and attractions are very ... Read More:
