We were tourists to NYC. Had great info on places to see in every area of town. Good thing to have in your bag with you... Ideally order it a few weeks in advance, so you can plan what you want to see ahead of time.

There is nothing I can say that would do any justice as to how great this book is. It was everything you could possibly hope for in an ethnographic text. You learn a lot about a culture very different from ours and it is truly just fascinating!

Perfect for carrying around for quick reference to the DC area. It is sturdy, and won't rip apart. Having the metro map is a huge plus.

I've loved every travel book that Paul Theroux has ever written. This is no exception. Wonderfully colorful writing. Given a thirty to forty year perspective, it has real impact. Buy it, get it at the library, but read it.

Good read - lots of useful suggestions. Very good on the barrios or neighborhoods.
Somewhat out of date - e.g. the Sydney Opera House style nightclub referenced in the section on the docks has apparently been burned out for several years.

National Geographic have compiled the most comprehensive blue-print of planet Earth and its surroundings. (the moon, mars, milky way etc) The book is well designed aesthetically and practically, beautiful in it's complexity but organized in a way thats easy to follow. it doesn't get any better than this.

Most guests at my house notice the giant blue book pretty quickly and have shown nothing but amazed impressions.

I definitely approve of this (honestly) hefty purchase. It's worth it

As a guy, the title isn't something that drew me in; however, I have a keen interest in all things India, so decided to give the book a try.

Amid the amusing and often hilarious anecdotes about Anita and her escapades is a fascinating look at India in transition that goes well beyond the supposedly heavyweight but hopelessly behind-the-curve tomes such as Freidman's "The World is Flat". Jain, of Indian heritage but having grown up in the U.S. is in a unique position to take the pulse of the key demographic in the New India. Her observations are cogent and witty.

This is very good book.

It was my first time in China and I went to both cities. The book was very informative, complete, well illustrated, and easy to read. Everybody in my group kept asking me to read it. I got to see other people's books and they did not come close. I strongly recommend this book.

I purchased this book after reading about it in a motorcycle article. I found it to be a pretty good read, although I find it hard to believe someone in the 1970's would choose a triumph motorcycle to do this trip on, knowing their history and reputation during the 70's! I thoroughly enjoyed Ted Simons' writing about his experiences and would recommend this book.
