The book contained a great amount of side trips along Route 66 that made the journey even more fun and adventurous. Follows the westbound route.

If you are looking for a hotel, nightclub, show, and dining options, this is a fantastic book. But, I had already made my hotel arrangements, and really am not a big show person. I don't gamble and am with my family, so nightclubs are not of interest. I just wanted to let you know why my rating is not 4 or 5 stars.

So, the dining section was the only part I found interesting - perfect for me, as there are so many dining options in Vegas. There was a very small section towards the back of the book that devoted attention to attractions for families. I probably should have bought a book titled "Las Vegas for Families" instead.

Sublette has done an amazing job pulling together political, cultural and social elements into a very compelling narrative. And super-informative too. Extremely impressive historical writing (and this is coming from a history major).

I LOVE how international and broad the perspective is. He really illuminates the dynamics of the time in a fantastic and vivid way.
It's seriously among the most readable and thorough books I've read.

Great book and very helpful for our travels. Many of the prices printed were out of date (Hotels, entertainment, etc...) but prices change often so just call and check.

FODOR'S MAINE COAST, 2ND EDITION is a great guide to everything you need to know about coastal Maine, whether it's shopping at the Maine Mall in South Portland, great outdoors-y stuff such as beaches, hiking, and seal watches, or important historical sites such as the home of Neal Dow, father of Prohibition. The only problem with this book is its failure to mention Bull Moose Music or any radio stations, but that's a minor quibble, as THE INSIDERS' GUIDE TO PORTLAND, MAINE and THE INSIDERS' GUIDE TO THE MAINE COAST cover those areas more than ably.

If you go hunting or wild camping it is important to know what land is for public or private property. Also very useful by driving with car (any car). Easy to know which street/road are ok for different kind of vehicle, truck or motorcycle.
The size of the map could be better it is not very handy, but so you don't need to have magnifying glass to use this guide.

Just returned from a fabulous 10 days in Kauai. We purchased and studied several guidebooks before our trip and took them all along with us. However, this was our "go to" book. It is like a friend had just returned and given us all their favorite places. And we cannot say enough about Hanalei and west of. Narrow your visit and no worries!

Eyewitness books are perfect. Compact, soft cover, extensive New England travel book. I love it! Has everything in a compact, easy to hold/handle travel book. Historical background, museums, recreation, parks, suggested hotels and restaurants. Highly recommend.

I'm a Seattle mostly-native (been here for 20 years) and picked up this book so that my guests from couchsurfing.com might be able to use it to get around the city. I used the Not For Tourists New York to get around while visiting there, and figured the local one might be handy too.

It's great! It truly does cover the city from the perspective of a local person, including witty and accurate comments about neighborhoods, restaurants/bars, etc., useful information about how to get around the city and to other nearby cities via public transportation, cool local places that are beautiful/unique but not touristy, etc.

In fact I'm so fond of it that sometimes I carry it around and read it myself for fun even though I'm quite familiar with the city ... Read More:
